I-26 Widening

I-26 Widening

The first phase of the I‑26 widening project between Hendersonville and Asheville is a major infrastructure effort led by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Spanning 16.9 miles from U.S. 64 in Hendersonville to Brevard Road in Asheville, the project aims to improve traffic flow, increase capacity, and enhance safety along this critical corridor.

Key improvements include widening I‑26 to four lanes in each direction, replacing 13 bridges—such as those over the French Broad River and the Blue Ridge Parkway—and upgrading the U.S. 25 and U.S. 64 interchanges. Delivered through a $263 million Design-Build contract, the project serves both Henderson and Buncombe counties and is a vital part of Western North Carolina’s transportation network.

Wilson & Associates provided construction surveying services using traditional surveying along with terrestrial and aerial LiDAR to ensure precise, efficient execution across all phases.
