Over 50 Year History of Experience & Expertise
In 1963, our company founder, Joe Charles Wilson, began work with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. During his tenure with TDOT, he also attended The University of Tennessee extension in Nashville and pursued his “semi-famous” rodeo career. After leaving TDOT in 1965, Charles continued surveying with private civil engineering firms until he formed Joe Charles Wilson Statewide Surveying in 1972.
In 1989, the company was restructured as Wilson & Associates, PC, and Gil Witt came on board as a company vice president. That same year, Wilson & Associates was awarded a subcontract for the construction surveying on (at that time) the State of Tennessees largest roadway-grading project, Interstate 81 (now I-26) south of Johnson City, Tennessee. This project proved to be the kick start for the companies prominence in construction surveying.
Joey C. Wilson II and his younger brother Justin had both worked alongside their father since they were youngsters, and in 1996, upon receiving his civil engineering degree from Tennessee Tech University, Joey formally joined his father’s company. That same year, Charles’ wife Cheryl became the company’s secretary/treasurer and EEO officer. Justin came to the company four years later.
In 1998, Tony Holcomb signed on with Wilson & Associates as a second vice president. He became instrumental in developing the erosion- and sediment-control inspection and reporting process used by TDOT for oversight of construction projects. Tony now heads up our company’s Environmental Division, formed in 2005.
In 2010, Wilson & Associates was honored to receive the Tennessee Road Builders Association Subcontractor of the Year Award for quality workmanship and ethical work habits. Our firm has been fortunate to have engaged many loyal and experienced employees throughout the years, including Cecil Cook (who brought almost 40 years of invaluable construction experience to W&A), Jonathan Bailey, RLS, Jon Slemp, PE, and Ed Miller, RLS.
And while construction surveying remains the foundation of the company (W&A has performed work on over four billion dollars in highway, commercial, industrial construction, and/or design projects), civil engineering and land planning are an integral part of the business, and the Environmental Division is leading the way for a newer, greener phase of road construction. Based in Franklin, Tennessee, and with offices in Johnson City and Cookeville, Tennessee, Wilson & Associates now works on projects across Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi and Alabama.
From the time when Charles Wilson first founded Wilson & Associates, the firm has expanded to become the largest construction surveying company in Tennessee, and since Charles’ and Cheryl’s recent retirement, Joey (as President) and Justin (as Excutive Vice President) continue to lead the firm in providing superior-quality services.
